{"id":1044,"date":"2013-02-15T09:00:29","date_gmt":"2013-02-15T13:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.summerofjim.com\/?p=1044"},"modified":"2022-03-07T11:26:20","modified_gmt":"2022-03-07T16:26:20","slug":"the-day-of-rabbits-worry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/summerofjim.com\/?p=1044","title":{"rendered":"The Day of Rabbit&#8217;s Worry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On a day that I was thinking about, our friend Rabbit found himself in a fit of worry and agitation.\u00a0 He paced the <em>greeting spot<\/em> of his well tended home that was comfortably tucked into a corner of 100 Acre Wood.\u00a0 Now Rabbit was by nature a worrying sort of rabbit, it was just that on this day he was expecting a visit from his Tax Attorney, Edward Bear, who would also be known as Winnie the Pooh, and sometimes Pooh Bear; and that increased Rabbit\u2019s sense of worry and agitation.<\/p>\n<p>As Tax Day neared it always brought an air of joy for Winnie the Pooh because it gave him the chance to visit all of his friends in 100 Acre Wood, help them file their returns and stay for perhaps a light snack.\u00a0 Briefcase in hand, as Pooh Bear neared Rabbit\u2019s Howse he launched into one of his favorite hums:<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s such a grand ol\u2019 day<br \/>\n<\/em><em>And someone has to pay<br \/>\n<\/em><em>And pay all day on such<br \/>\n<\/em><em>A grand ol\u2019 day<br \/>\n<\/em><em>tump-tiddie-day, tump-tiddie-day<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Rabbit scurried around his abode hiding away his recently harvested vegetables.\u00a0 \u201cOh dear, dear!\u00a0 I think I hear him outside!\u201d the nervous Rabbit said to himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHalloooo Rabbit!\u201d Pooh called out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWh-wh-who is it?\u201d Rabbit trembled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it is me\u201d, answered Winnie the Pooh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that y-y-you Pooh Bear?\u201d Rabbit asked, after he finished storing away his prize cabbage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is if you say so Rabbit!\u201d\u00a0 Pooh happily replied, and with no further encouragement Pooh Bear entered thru Rabbit\u2019s front door, although there was no door to speak of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEr, hello Pooh Bear \u2013 it\u2019s so n-n-nice to see you again, I think. It\u2019s that time of the year, I suppose\u2026\u201d Rabbit nervously observed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou must be referring to T-A-X time Rabbit, and you must be right because I brought my brief case, and I only bring my brief case when it\u2019s <em>that<\/em> time of the year! Oh, bother!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs there something wrong Pooh Bear?\u00a0 Did you forget something?\u201d Rabbit asked, thinking that his return might be a matter of difficulty.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.summerofjim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/winnie-and-rabbit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1103\" src=\"http:\/\/www.summerofjim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/winnie-and-rabbit.jpg\" alt=\"winnie and rabbit\" width=\"234\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, Rabbit\u2026\u201d And Pooh Bear wandered over to Rabbit\u2019s cupboard, \u201cI am glad you asked.\u00a0 It\u2019s a smallish matter really.\u00a0 You see, I feel a distinct rumbly in my tummy and I was thinking that I might enjoy a smackerl of something to eat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And before Rabbit could say \u201coh, dear\u201d, Pooh Bear was in the cupboard peering into each stored jar and moving this and that.\u00a0 And while he surveyed the contents of Rabbit\u2019s larder, Pooh Bear quietly hummed:<\/p>\n<p><em>There\u2019s a rumbly in my tummy<br \/>\n<\/em><em>And I know it, and I know it<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Eat a carrot, munch an onion<br \/>\n<\/em><em>And you fix it, and you fix it<br \/>\n<\/em><em>There\u2019s a rumbly in my tummy<br \/>\n<\/em><em>Pooh will fix it, Pooh will fix it!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It only took Pooh Bear a few minutes to collect all manner of vegetables which he then dutifully presented to the unbelieving Rabbit, \u201cWhy Rabbit, look what I found! A few ribs of celery, two bulbs of fennel, a bunch of heirloom carrots, a head of romaine, 3 Vidalia onions, some beautiful turnips, six beef steak tomatoes, lovely radishes <em>and<\/em> an exceptional cabbage!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy cabbage! B-b-b-but\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNonsense Rabbit.\u00a0 These are perfect for you to make into a very tasty snack!\u00a0 While you stir-fry, I will find us something to wet our whistles!\u201d\u00a0 And Pooh Bear went to the pantry where Rabbit stored his beverages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, d-d-d-dear\u201d\u00a0 the worried Rabbit stammered, and he proceeded to rinse, pat dry, chop and begin stir-frying the entire contents of his cupboard, <em>including<\/em> his prize cabbage.<\/p>\n<p>Pooh Bear shuffled thru the bottles in the pantry, \u201cMaybe a nice Chardonnay Rabbit?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCh-ch-ch-Chardonnay?\u00a0 Oh, that would be fine Pooh Bear\u2026 <em>I think<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy Rabbit!\u00a0 You have a Corton-Charlemagne from Burgundy!\u201d\u00a0 And before Rabbit could offer an objection, the sound of a popping cork could be heard and Pooh Bear emerged from the pantry with the opened bottle of Grand Cru and two good sized glasses and he joyfully began his <em>I Love Burgundy Hum\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>B-U-R-G-undie, undie!<br \/>\n<\/em><em>I love it, I love it!<br \/>\n<\/em><em>With fish cakes and rice<br \/>\n<\/em><em>It\u2019s so nice\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And Pooh stopped his hum, \u201cOh, bother!\u00a0 Rabbit, we\u2019re not having fish cakes and rice and I don\u2019t think I can fit V-E-G-table stir-fry into my hum!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rabbit called a temporary halt to his cooking, \u201cPooh Bear, if you\u2019re disappointed about the fish cakes and rice, I can put these vegetables away and perhaps we could look at my t-t-t-tax return?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNonsense Rabbit!\u00a0 The stir-fry smells deeee-lish-usssss!\u00a0 And besides, it will be so good to have with this deeee-lish-usssss C-O-R-T-O-N Charlemagne! Oh, bother!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Now<\/em> what is it Pooh Bear?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI seemed to have finished off this bottle of Burgundy all by myself!\u00a0 But no fear Rabbit, I espied another bottle hiding in your pantry behind a dusty bottle of some dumb Chardonnay!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rabbit ran to block Pooh Bear\u2019s path to the pantry; but he was two steps too late\u2026 \u201cW-w-w-wait Pooh Bear!!\u201d\u00a0 But before Rabbit could get out another word, the tell tale sound of a popping cork told Rabbit that his last bottle of Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne had been opened!\u00a0 Poor Rabbit had to resign himself to the situation, and he set to putting out modest plates of vegetable stir-fry on the dinning room table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very fine snack, Rabbit.\u00a0 Although I find the portion size to be on the S-K-I-M-P-Y side.\u201d\u00a0 And with this, Pooh Bear wandered back to the kitchen and helped himself to all that remained of the vegetable stir-fry.\u00a0 \u201cThis is just what I needed to go with my Burgundy,\u201d and with perfect efficiency Pooh Bear finished off all that remained of the Burgundy\u2026 making the wine and the stir-fry come out even.\u00a0 \u201cThere!\u00a0 Deeee-lish-usssss!
