other Literary Forms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They enjoyed their time together in the manner in which old friends can do.\u00a0 They had been friends since grade school.\u00a0 They could talk of their childhood, of their parents, of their respective loves in their life&#8230; or of political and social issues.\u00a0 Basically they could talk about anything.\u00a0 And the ease of their <em>conversation<\/em> translated perfectly to emails and quick turn around responses&#8230; something that would usually happen at the\u00a0start of\u00a0the day.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Here is something to get you started&#8230; I know you will like it!<\/p>\n<p><em>Balls of tasty chopped meat<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Smothered in tomato sauce, oh what a treat!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Add some melted mozz, isn&#8217;t that neat?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Placed in bread of hero, can&#8217;t be beat!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Really impressive.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t give up your day job.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You&#8217;re jealous because you can&#8217;t write poetry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Poetry?\u00a0 Is that what you call that?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes&#8230; It&#8217;s my &#8216;<u>Ode to a Meatball Parm Hero<\/u>.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ode?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes, Ode.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a form of poetry.\u00a0 I write Odes all the time.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a creative outlet that is necessary for my well being.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Does that mean that you have given up finger painting?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I gave that up a while ago&#8230; just after I stopped making paper snow flakes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Did Sandy take away your big boy scissors?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes.\u00a0 I cut her favorite tablecloth.\u00a0 It was a mistake.\u00a0 Then I got nervous and spilled my chocolate milk in the floor vent.\u00a0 It was an accident.\u00a0 Never mind.\u00a0 Here is something else for you:<\/p>\n<p><em>A laser shot straight and true<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Dimpled white ball tearing into the blue<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Landing near the pin and sticking like glue<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bringing joy and happiness to the Country Club Jew&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You drink chocolate milk?\u00a0 Your first Ode was better.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was really bourbon.\u00a0 But bourbon and paper snow flakes would probably stretch the bounds of credulity.\u00a0 The name of the poem is &#8216;<u>Ode to the Links<\/u>.&#8217;\u00a0 You prefer the first one because you like a good sandwich, or perhaps it&#8217;s simply a reflection of your root Anti-Semitism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A meatball parm is a good sandwich.\u00a0 A Reuben is better.\u00a0 Does thinking that Joe Lieberman is a <em>putz <\/em>make me Anti-Semitic?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You bring up an interesting point.\u00a0 Try this on for size.\u00a0 You know the sandwich, now experience <u>Reuben: the Haiku<\/u>!<\/p>\n<p><em>Piled high lean corned beef<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Swiss, &#8216;kraut and\u00a0Russian Dressing<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Inside heaven&#8217;s gates<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I think this was one of my best\u00a0poems.\u00a0 It really captures the form&#8230; concise, crisp and excellent imagery.\u00a0 I submitted it to the <em>New Yorker<\/em>; but it was rejected.\u00a0 I think that Lieberman is a putz, too.\u00a0 A putz <em>and <\/em>a sanctimonious wind bag.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Haiku?\u00a0 A Reuben Haiku?!\u00a0 And Ode to a Meatball Parm?\u00a0 This is culinary pornography.\u00a0 I have to begin my work day&#8230; I am glad that you have time to indulge in your poetic fantasies; but I have to make a living.\u00a0 Lieberman is a <em>dangerous <\/em>wind bag.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Does that mean that you don&#8217;t have time for my &#8216;Sonnet to George Bush&#8217;s Last Day in Office?'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sonnet?\u00a0 You really wrote a Sonnet?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No.\u00a0 Not exactly.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t mastered that literary form yet.\u00a0 I working on it though.\u00a0 I am reviewing what Iambic Pentameter means&#8230; I&#8217;ll do some training, then watch out!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think that Shakespeare has to worry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that Shakespeare gave up worrying 400 years ago.\u00a0 Go to work.\u00a0 You can repay me for giving your life a literary uplift by buying dinner and drinks the next time.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They enjoyed their time together in the manner in which old friends can do.\u00a0 They had been friends since grade school.\u00a0 They could talk of their childhood, of their parents, of their respective loves in their life&#8230;
