Part II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that the U.S. Mint has time on its hands.\u00a0 Understandable, I suppose.\u00a0 Creating the same coins every day\u2026 every week\u2026 every month. I can imagine all the excitement that must be generated when they gear up to change a digit for the next year.\u00a0<!--more--> Just think what it must be like when the new mold is punched out\u2026 they all gather around, sweat beading on their brows, standing on tippy-toes so they can catch an early peek\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, Lou! You inverted the 1 and the 2! Hah!\u00a0 Don\u2019t worry, I was just fuckin\u2019 with you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And now this.\u00a0 They have created yet another new penny! The one with the Union Pacific logo on the back wasn\u2019t enough!<\/p>\n<p>The front of the coin remains unchanged.\u00a0 Our 16<sup>th<\/sup> President still looks remarkably good.\u00a0 The reverse depicts a young Abe Lincoln sitting on a log.\u00a0 And now the truth is revealed.\u00a0 Abe is perched on the log reading a book, with a croquet mallet resting by his side.\u00a0 A wedge partially inserted at the far end of the log. You can almost see the future Campaign posters\u2026 <em>Vote for Honest Abe Lincoln The Ol\u2019 Rail Splitter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But take a closer look at the book.\u00a0 Awfully large for a regular sized book published in the day.\u00a0 Maybe he didn\u2019t really know how to split a rail? Maybe it was a manual?\u00a0<em> How To Split A Rail\u2026<\/em> he had to learn the skill so he could acquire that <em>common man<\/em> persona that would become so invaluable in his future elections.<\/p>\n<p>Or perhaps the book contained instructions on how to play croquet?\u00a0 Maybe that is where he won the heart of Mary Todd away from Stephen Douglas?\u00a0 Everyone knew that Douglas couldn\u2019t play croquet worth a damn!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy Mr. Lincoln, that was a well played ball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe the folks at the Mint have got it all wrong!\u00a0 That\u2019s not Abe Lincoln on the log!\u00a0 It\u2019s Henry Fonda <em>playing<\/em> Abe Lincoln.\u00a0 Notice how Abe Lincoln is pigeon toed in the coin!\u00a0 Lincoln was not pigeon toed\u2026 but Henry Fonda was!\u00a0 OK, now everything makes sense!\u00a0 It\u2019s Henry Fonda, taking a break from shooting a scene on the set of <em>Young Mr. Lincoln<\/em>\u2026 and he was just brushing up on the script! Clever, <em>really<\/em> clever!<\/p>\n<p>You gotta hand it to the U.S. Mint!\u00a0 What a fun loving bunch!<\/p>\n<p>p.s.
